Welcome to netmob logo 2023

October 4-6, Madrid, Spain

NetMob is the primary conference on the analysis of mobile phone datasets in social, urban, societal and industrial problems.

Conference

NetMob 2023 runs on a flexible format: a single track of short contributed talks, a simplified submission procedure, and the possibility to present early results or work submitted elsewhere. We welcome all contributions that deal with the analysis of mobile phone datasets. This includes but is not limited to analyses of CDRs, xDRs, mobile location data, Wi-Fi usage, mobile app data, social media content, etc.

Submission format:

  • Authors are invited to submit two-page abstracts (including figures, tables and references).
  • Submissions should include the title, author(s), affiliation(s) and email address(es) on the first page.
  • Electronic submission of manuscripts in PDF format is required.

Data Challenge

Colocated with NetMob 2023, we are launching the NetMob 2023 Data Challenge. The challenge aims at deriving new knowledge from the analysis, characterization, modelling and cross-correlation of an original high-resolution dataset describing mobile service usage in multiple regions of France

Challenge format:

  • Prospective participants shall apply to the challenge in order to get access to the dataset. Instructions are available at the challenge webpage.
  • Admitted participants shall submit two-page extended abstracts in PDF format including title, author(s), affiliation(s) and email address(es) on the first page, describing their preliminary results from the dataset analysis.
  • Selected participants will be invited to submit by September 22, 2023 a final report consisting of: a complete document without page limits that will be kept confidential, and used to select the challenge awardees as well as to take a final decision on whether the work will be presented at the conference as a talk or a poster; and, 2-page summary of the work that will appear in the public NetMob 2023 Book of Abstracts.

For authors of abstracts accepted for presentation as a talk

  1. Each talk will be allocated 12 minutes plus 3 minutes for Q&A. We will have to enforce a strict compliance with timing due to a fairly packed program, so please make sure that you stay in the allotted 12 minutes with your presentation.
  2. Prepare a PDF file with your slides and upload it via HotCRP by September 29 at the latest. We will collect and organize all slide decks, which will be played from a local computer to avoid last-minute problems with connectivity and incompatibility.
  3. Provide a short biography of the presenter in the dedicated free-text form in HotCRP.
  4. Note that NetMob 2023 will be a fully in-person event, and we do not have options for remote presentation.

For authors of abstracts to be presented as posters

  1. Format of posters is A0 in portrait orientation (84.1 cm width x 118.9 cm height, or 33.1 inches x 46.8 inches).
  2. You need to print the poster on your own, an 'emergency' printing facility is available in the venue but that should only be considered as a backup.
  3. As you can see from the program, each poster is exhibited for one full day on October 5, the second day of the conference. You are welcome to set up your poster at any time between 8:30 (when the venue opens) and the end of the first coffee break (at 10:45). The official time allocated for attendees to browse posters is from 13:00 to 15:00, and we encourage you to stand by your poster during that time, after grabbing your lunch. You should remove your poster by the end of the day.
